What is DGI?
DGI is a sports and cultural organisation with about 1.5 million members in Denmark, and including - for historical reasons - some 12,000 members on the German side of the common border.
The organisation has roots back as far as 1861 where events in Denmark and other parts of Europe, particularly the volatile international climate, led to the formation of shooting associations with the ultimate goal of defending the nation. Later the associations adopted other sports: gymnastics, football etc.
Our main focus is on supporting all our member clubs with education and inspiration and our core values are health, community and sporting challenges.
DGI has about 5000 different member clubss and embraces everything from football to Frisbee-golf. DGI is also managing a lot of different sports projects for, among others, the government and the counties – including sport and inclusions projects.
DGI is for everybody who wants to be part of an active community in Denmark.
